slow cooker beef

slow cooker beef

2 pounds sirloin steak or boneless beef chuck roast, sliced thin
1 cup (235 ml) beef broth/stock
1/2 cup (125 ml) low-sodium soy sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon sesame oil
4 garlic cloves, minced
4 tablespoons cornstarch
4 tablespoons water
1 head of broccoli, cut into florets

1.  Pour the beef broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and garlic into the slow cooker and whisk lightly before adding the beef and tossing to coat before covering and cooking for 4 hours on low.

2.  Whisk the cornstarch and water in small bowl, then pour into your slow cooker and add the broccoli before stirring gently to combine and cook on low for 30 minutes.
Plain steamed white rice is the perfect foil for the complex flavors and really, you need little else.  Egg noodles would make a fine alternative to rice, or for tossing with any leftover beef and broccoli for lunch the next day.  You might need to fight the kids for it though.
