Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp smoked paprika
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 lb beef brisket (flat cut)
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1 tbsp liquid smoke
- 4 cloves minced garlic
- 1 cup BBQ sauce
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Instructions:
- Pat the brisket completely dry with paper towels and generously coat all sides with the mixture of brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt.
- Heat vegetable oil in a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat; sear the brisket for 4–6 minutes per side until a deep mahogany crust forms.
- Remove the meat from the skillet and sauté the minced garlic in the remaining pan drippings for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Whisk together the beef broth, apple cider vinegar, and liquid smoke, then pour the mixture into the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Place the seared brisket into the slow cooker with the fat cap facing upward.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 8 hours without opening the lid.
- Carefully transfer the brisket to a platter and brush with a glaze made from BBQ sauce, honey, and Worcestershire sauce.
