Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 lb beef brisket (flat cut)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp liquid smoke
  • 4 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Instructions:

  1. Pat the brisket completely dry with paper towels and generously coat all sides with the mixture of brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and salt.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat; sear the brisket for 4–6 minutes per side until a deep mahogany crust forms.
  3. Remove the meat from the skillet and sauté the minced garlic in the remaining pan drippings for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Whisk together the beef broth, apple cider vinegar, and liquid smoke, then pour the mixture into the bottom of the slow cooker.
  5. Place the seared brisket into the slow cooker with the fat cap facing upward.
  6. Cover and cook on LOW for 8 hours without opening the lid.
  7. Carefully transfer the brisket to a platter and brush with a glaze made from BBQ sauce, honey, and Worcestershire sauce.
